Winemakers Club, Otros Vinos and Wines Under the Bonnet by Inna Sirota

Having made rash promises more than a week ago about all the articles I was going to write, I promptly got ill. Those promises will be met, eventually, but in the meantime I was unable to make it to the tasting at Antidote earlier this week.  Help was at hand…Inna Sirota has provided some notes on her favourite  wines from this event. I hope that they provide some recompense for my own  inactivity. I’d like to thank her for generously giving of her time to provide a  record of this important tasting. Inna spent fifteen years crunching numbers in New York (banking) and London (Google) before deciding to quit finance in order to concentrate on her passion for wine travel … Continue reading

Nekter-Roland-Modal

February is the month when we suddenly begin to see calendar congestion. The Spring portfolio tastings come so thick and fast that it is unfortunately impossible to go to them all. I’ve tried to select a good variety. The first … Continue reading

Wines of the Year 2018 and stuff like that

It seems a little early to be doing a review of the year at the end of November, but I suspect there will be plenty of other things I want to write about before the Christmas hangover has disappeared, so … Continue reading

Les Caves at Pew Corner

Everyone knows Les Caves de Pyrene, right? Celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year, it is easy to forget, in a country awash with fine young importers of natural and biodynamic wines, that Les Caves were the pioneers. Their portfolio is now … Continue reading

40 Maltby Street

London is full of restaurants which are without any doubt “worth a detour” in Michelin parlance, and despite the pressures on our economy they continue to open, for now. What with trying to keep up, which I am failing miserably … Continue reading

Moldova – Didn’t See That Coming

It’s fair to say that many wine lovers would be hard pushed to pinpoint Moldova on a map, let alone realise that it is a country with a very long winemaking history. Sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine, most of Moldova … Continue reading

Take a Quick SWiG

Back on 25th September I was at the Out The Box young importers tasting and I promised to put up some notes on what I tried from Swig at the end of last week, following their joint Portfolio tasting with Uncharted Wines. That turned … Continue reading

Uncharted Territory

I had intended to write an article combining the wines from Uncharted Wines and Swig that I tasted last week at Out the Box with those I tasted at their joint portfolio tasting at The China Exchange in Soho yesterday. Looking at the number of wines I want … Continue reading

Out the Box 2018

September is a busy month for Tastings, so I apologise that this article is appearing, unusually, almost a week after the event. I’m covering five importers here: Maltby & Greek, Modal Wines, The Knotted Vine, Basket Press Wines and Red Squirrel Wine. I simply … Continue reading

Downstairs at Eric’s (and Doug’s) Part 2 – Wines Under the Bonnet in the Basement at Terroirs

This is the second part of our Yazoo-themed coverage of the joint Tasting held by Otros Vinos (Part 1, here) and Wines Under the Bonnet. Whereas all Fernando’s wines are Spanish, the wines I picked out here are largely from France, … Continue reading
